Welcome to Sydney Heart Valve Bank's (SHVB) website The Sydney Heart Valve Bank is a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) Licenced cGMP Tissue Bank affiliated with St. Vincent's Public Hospital, Sydney, under the Care of the Sister's of Charity. Our MissionTo always process donated human heart valves in an ethically sound and responsible manner and to always keep in mind that all human tissue is a gift. We provide services of the highest possible standards, to satisfy valve recipient and surgeon needs with expectations of quality, safety and reliability. We achieve this by maintaining a documented effective Quality System which complies with the requirements of Therapeutic Goods Administration's (TGA) Code of Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and other relevant standards. Profile of the Sydney Heart Valve BankThe Sydney Heart Valve Bank (SHVB) is a non-profit homograft valve bank, established in 1989 at St. Vincent's Public Hospital Sydney for processing and storing donated human heart valve tissue for clinical heart valve replacement. We process approximately 30-40 aortic and pulmonary valves per year. This facility supplies valve tissues (about 30 per year) for use in congenital and acquired defects when required by all cardiothoracic institutions in NSW and interstate. The tissue bank is an active member of the Australasian Tissue Banking Forum (ATBF), an organisation which fosters and promotes best practice in the retrieval, preparation, storage and distribution of human tissue for transplantation throughout Australasia.
